Spoiler Alert: U.K. newspaper reveals secrets of Pottermore

By Carol Memmott, USA TODAY

It was supposed to be top secret and Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling is still holding a press conference tomorrow morning in London, but it looks like she's been scooped.

The U.K.'s Guardian newspaper reports today that Rowling's announcement tomorrow will involve an online game. Pottermore, according to the Guardian, is a Potter-based treasure hunt.

The newspaper apparently got wind of the project after a "secret" memo was leaked to them accidentally -- or on purpose.

What the Guardian says: "The new project is reportedly an online game that gives users clues which will lead them to prizes hidden in the real world. Aspiring wizards the world over can hope to find an undisclosed number of magic wands stashed throughout the U.K. and U.S., and possibly other countries. It is not yet clear if the treasure hunt is Pottermore itself or a marketing drive for another product, and details about the game remain hazy."

The final word on Pottermore will come from Rowling Thursday morning at a press coference to be held at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
