How Did Rachel Uchitel?s Decision To Be On ?Celebrity Rehab? Affect Her Chances For ?Celebrity Apprentice??

Well, easy come, easy go. I told you that Donald Trump had extended an offer to the first alleged Tiger Woods' mistress, Rachel Uchitel, to be on the upcoming season of 'Celebrity Apprentice.'Then it was announced today that Rachel is one of the people who will be on 'Celebrity Rehab' (for $500,000, according to TMZ). How did that sit with the Donald? TMZ asked.
Trump's reaction: "It's a terrible decision. We have zero interest in her now."Trump thinks Rachel will regret her decision. "Look at what 'Celebrity Apprentice' did for Piers Morgan. He's getting Larry King's job. She made a bad mistake."Trump's final shot: "Celebrity Apprentice is a huge show and 'Celebrity Rehab' is not. I have 10 people who want to be on the show for every slot that's available. I'm moving on."
Hmmm. Well, it sounds like Rachel went where the guaranteed money was (although Donald had made her an offer, NBC has final say on who competes on the show). Do you think she made the right choice?Photos by INFContinue reading

Beyonce To Star In Clint Eastwood's 'A Star Is Born' Remake

Movie will be directed and produced by the Oscar winner.

Beyoncé Knowles is headed back to the big screen and into the familiar territory of playing an aspiring singer-turned-superstar. According to Deadline, Knowles will star in a remake of "A Star Is Born," to be directed and produced by Oscar winner Clint Eastwood for Warner Bros.

The remake will be the fourth telling of the "A Star Is Born" tale, the most memorable in recent years being the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson as star-crossed lovers of sorts. It is also worth mentioning that the producers of that film, Billy Gerber and Jon Peters, are also attached to this new project. It is said to be a full-on musical with production set to begin sometime in the fall.

Naturally, the plot details are under wraps, but the original story revolves around an aspiring singer who meets and falls in love with a troubled, failing former star who helps get the young ingénue her big break in the business.

No announcements have been made with regard to the male lead, but the report mentioned that major names like Will Smith, Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Hamm have been floated around.

It's definitely an interesting step for Knowles but not necessarily a surprise, given the fact that the majority of her film roles have been as singers ("Cadillac Records," "Dreamgirls," "The Fighting Temptations"). While many thought "Dreamgirls" would bring awards recognition for Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson's supporting role ended up garnering the most attention. With Oscar fave Eastwood at the helm of this new project, Knowles could be in line for some hardware yet.

Rihanna & Ciara: Twitter Fracas

Ciara took a shot at Rihanna during her appearance on E!?s ?Fashion Police,? and the ?Take a Bow? songstress took to her Twitter account to settle the score.

While chatting with host Joan Rivers, Ciara stated, "I ran into [Rihanna] recently at a party. She wasn't the nicest. It's crazy, because I've always loved and respected what she's done in fashion. It wasn't the most pleasant run-in."

Soon thereafter, Rihanna shot back, "My bad, Ci, did I forget to tip you," which elicited a response from Ciara- ?Trust me, Rihanna, you don?t want to see me on or off the stage.?

Ri-Ri replied, ?U gangsta huh? Haaa? followed by, ?Good luck with booking that stage you speak of.?

Later, Rihanna thought better of her spiteful words and wrote, "Ciara baby, I love you girl! You hurt my feelings real bad on TV! I'm heartbroken! That's why I retaliated this way! So sorry!"

Oscar Night Gets Mixed Reviews From Celebrities

At the Vanity Fair party, Stewie Griffin, Russell Brand, Jimmy Kimmel and others weigh in on their favorite moments.

After weeks of buildup, not-so-subtle campaigns by major studios, prognosticating by critics and award season pundits, etc, the 2011 class of Oscar winners were announced on Sunday night in a predictably lengthy and star-studded telecast.

While the big stories of the night always revolve around who/what won (answer: "The King's Speech," Natalie Portman, Colin Firth, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo), when MTV News hit up the extra-exclusive hot-ticket post-Oscar Vanity Fair bash, we found there was an equal amount of buzz about the performances of first-time hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco, as well as reactions to the overall show itself. And the reviews of which were decidedly mixed.

"It was great!" "Glee" star Jane Lynch exclaimed. "I loved the opening number and thought James and Anne played off each other well."

"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane's review, which we asked him to deliver in character Stewie Griffin wasn't quite as rosy.

"Let's see, I was disappointed that Hugh Jackman didn't sing that song," MacFarlane said in Stewie's haughty faux-British accent, recalling the moment in the show when Hathaway sang a song blaming Jackman for bailing on a supposed duet. "That was dreadful that he backed out on that poor girl like that. What a wicked man.

"Was that was what was supposed to happen? Was that for real? " MacFarlane continued, speaking as himself. "There was a lot of really uncomfortable moments, like things were kind of half-formed, you know?"

Awkward-moment master Russell Brand, who presented the award for best foreign language film with his "Arthur" co-star Helen Mirren, didn't seem to notice anything uncomfortable.

"It was wonderful," he said of the show. "I'm happy that 'The King's Speech' did well."

When asked what he thought were the funniest moments, whether intentional or not, Brand pleaded the fifth.

"I don't know. I don't judge other people because I'm spiritual," he quipped.

On the other hand, Jimmy Kimmel, who readily admitted that he prefers his awards shows full of weird moments or unplanned disasters, had no problem passing judgment on the 83rd annual telecast.

"I think Kirk Douglas was funny," he said, speaking of the 94-year-old actor's charming, but slightly drawn-out, presentation of the Best Supporting Actress trophy. "I guarantee he planned to do that."

Kimmel's pick for unintentional funny moment went to Best Supporting Actress winner Melissa Leo dropping an F-bomb mid-acceptance speech before taking Douglas' cane from him to steady herself as they walked away from the podium.

What was your favorite moment of the night? How did Anne Hathaway and James Franco do as hosts? Tell us in the comments!

Kanye West Boo'd At Chicago Bulls Game + 50 Cent Buys Floyd Mayweather A Rolls Royce For His Bday

Kanye West showed up at the Chicago Bulls/Miami Heat game yesterday and was met with a round of boos. Hmm...I wonder why?  Inside, we consider what made the crowd "turn" on Kayne and we drool over the new Rolls Royce 50 Cent bought his BFF Floyd Mayweather...

It seems like Chicago Bulls fans are not feeling Kanye West right now.  We can't pinpoint the reason why because Kanye is always p*ssing people off.

We told you earlier about his controversial tweet saying some women use "abortions" as a money making schemes.  That particular tweet did not go over well with most people.

Also...word on the street was that Kanye sat on the Miami Heat's side of the United Center in Chicago.  Dude...you are from Chicago and you sit with the opposing team?  That's shade.

So it could be one of those reasons...who knows?

And in other news about rappers....

50 Cent just bought his BFF Floyd Mayweather a Rolls Royce for his bday.

Floyd's fiance Ebony popped out the car as a surprise as well. 50 actually presented Floyd with three different colors, Floyd chose out of the three, and the others were returned.  Sweet.

The 'American Idol' Top 24, Twitterized

We break down the season 10 hopefuls, in 140 characters or less.
By James Montgomery

Contestants perform on "American Idol" on Wednesday
Photo: FOX

On Thursday night, "American Idol" revealed the remainder of the season 10 Top 24, a collection of singer/songwriters, balladeers, scatters, divas, perky teens and belters that will compete to become the heir to Lee DeWyze's throne (perhaps he's not the best example, but let's move on).

Unlike previous seasons, this year's crop of contenders is long on talent, short on sob stories — Chris Medina's exit made sure of that. And while it's probably too early to say this, we could be looking at the most-gifted field of singers in "Idol" history (or at least since the epochal third season). So it would probably benefit you to get to know the field before the cruel cut-downs begin.

And since we know you're busy, we've decided to condense each contestant into a quick, 140-character bio, each ready to be cut-and-pasted into your very own Twitter feed. For your perusing pleasure, here's our take on the "American Idol" top 24 — Twitterized. Because how else can you tell your Brett Loewensterns from your Clint Jun Gamboas?

Ashthon Jones: Big hair, bigger voice. Bears uncanny resemblance to young Beyoncé. Likes roller skating. Creative spelling of first name.

Brett Loewenstern: Bigger hair, even bigger collection of accessories. Is vaguely New Age-y. Also vaguely reminds us of a camp counselor.

Casey Abrams: This year's token oddball. Makes goofy faces. Is actually pretty talented. Resembles Fozzie Bear, a ginger Screech, Mike D.

Clint Jun Gamboa: Twitchy karaoke champ with impressive arsenal of eyewear. Refuses to apologize for Jacee Badeaux dis. Rivers Cuomo-esque.

Haley Reinhart: Returning contestant who seems to have existed in some form on every "Idol" season ever. Raspy voiced. Preternaturally happy.

Jacob Lusk: Prodigiously piped gospel singer. Makes amazing faces while singing. Sort of resembles Mushmouth. Always wears ties. Is awesome.

James Durbin: Rocker who recalls Adam Lambert. Made bold choice to tackle Sam Cooke classic. In desperate need of a bandana intervention.

Jordan Dorsey: Catty, cutthroat alpha male who adheres to the "I'm just here to win" mantra, probably to his detriment. Not a good teammate.

Jovany Barreto: Bulgy, libidinous crooner with smoove voice. Wears much linen. Is here for the ladies. Has an amazing Twitter account.

Julie Zorilla: Poised, put-together pre-packaged entertainer. Wears many dresses. Early favorite of J.Lo. Recalls every Disney princess.

Karen Rodriguez: Primping diva-in-training. Vowed to be first Latina "Idol" champ. Possesses the talent to do so, yet is not a guy, so ...

Kendra Chantelle: Raspy-voiced powerhouse from Nashville. Despite talent, may be outshined by other female singers. Has two first names.

Lauren Alaina: Young, bubbly judges' favorite. Is strangely drawn to Steven Tyler. Dresses like she's attending a Quinceañera at Dollywood.

Lauren Turner: Likable everywoman/singing maid. Much like Kendra Chantelle, may have trouble grabbing the spotlight. Impressive hair.

Naima Adedapo: Bewitching nu-soul singer with tricky last name. Has large back tattoo, dreadlocks à la Crystal Bowersox. Is a real wild card.

Paul McDonald: Aptly named singer/songwriter who possesses very little flash, and yet, is a favorite. Might regret that rhinestone suit.

Pia Toscano: Talented singer whose name sounds like an Olive Garden entrée. Polished, performing-arts background, which explains a lot.

Rachel Zevita: Over-the-top stage baby with an attitude to match. Is an odd mix of Tatiana Del Toro and Siobhan Magnus, only so much more.

Robbie Rosen: Slightly gawky singer who somehow stole Billy Joel's hair, circa Glass Houses. Transforms into confident loverman when singing.

Scotty McCreery: Throwback country crooner who is eternally twanging "Baby Lock Them Doors." Would be super-famous in Nashville, 1985.

Stefano Langone: Booming singer who survived a near-fatal accident, and has the scars to prove it. Handsome, yet is sort of the Anti-Jovany.

TaTynisa Wilson: Big singer with creatively spelled first name. Eternally poised on the verge of greatness, has yet to reach those heights.

Thia Megia: Ultra-young singer with voice, presence beyond her years. Last female to make the cut, yet could be considered a dark horse fave.

Tim Halperin: Everydude with appropriately bland name. Despite that fact, is handsome, which could make him shoo-in to win the whole thing.

Usher, Ke$ha And More Help Dance Music Go Pop In 2010

But is it here to stay? Our music-industry experts weigh in.
By Akshay Bhansali

Ke$ha
Photo: Andreas Rentz/ Getty Images

In 2010, pop princesses, R&B icons and chart-dominating newcomers all danced to the same beat. Not only did dance music go pop, but pop music caught the club-music bug.

Between Katy Perry's "Firework," Ke$ha's "We R Who We R," Rihanna's "Only Girl (In the World)," Enrique Iglesias' "I Like It," Usher's "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" and "OMG" and countless other singles, established artists definitely looked to dance beats for surefire hits. And two of this year's biggest success stories in music were Jason Derülo and Taio Cruz; could there be a soul left in this country who hasn't heard "Dynamite" or "In My Head"?

The love went both ways, with dance music's biggest stars finding mainstream success this year. Dance-music maestro deadmau5 took up house-artist duties at this year's VMAs, and Swedish House Mafia and Usher teamed up for a medley of their gems at the American Music Awards.

So how did this happen? We caught up with some music-industry experts to get their takes.

"You definitely saw tempos go up this year," Jon Caramanica of The New York Times told MTV News. "And I think what you had are a lot of producers who are really familiar with nightclub stuff. They are familiar with Europe. Things are happening on a more global scale now."

"I think everything from Europe, and sometimes even Asia, it comes to America, and we just adopt things a little bit slower," said Jared Eng of JustJared.com. "I think it was just a change. People like different types of music at different times. And dance was of this moment."

Noah Callahan of Complex magazine added: "I think 2010 saw the merging of the pop and dance genres. Pop artists realized that there were best practices that could be borrowed from dance music. And, ultimately, [all] pop music that has been made in the past 20 years had ended up being remixed for the club by dance artists. I think they basically just cut out the middleman and went straight there."

Dance music being introduced into the hip-hop and R&B realms was particularly notable this year.

"I think David Guetta kind of at the end of last year and the beginning of this year spearheaded it," said freelance writer Julianne Escobedo Shepherd. "He produced a lot of tracks. I think as trends go, people revile 'unst-unst.' But it's just coming back around. Big-room techno was a way for people to get decadent in a year that no one could get decadent."

"You have someone like will.i.am, who's like, 'Well, I spent all this time in Ibiza, and this is what they are doing,' and he wants to find a way to bring that into his music," Caramanica said of the Black Eyed Peas mastermind. "R&B especially became dance music. And especially with your Jason Derülos, Taio Cruzes. Guys like that would have literally been blocked at the border two years ago. That would not have made it through customs. And now all of a sudden they have #1 songs. I think will.i.am had a lot to do with that last year."

Elliott Wilson of RapRadar.com added: "It's actually even affected hip-hop. I was talking to Q-Tip, and his next record, I feel like that's gonna kind of go in that vein. I know that was also Jay-Z's thought process with Blueprint 3 at first, that he wanted to make a little bit more of a world music [vibe], a little more dancey. I think the kids today want to go to the clubs. They wanna have a good time. They wanna dance. So I think the artists of today are trying to kind of feed that audience."

"I think it's caught on this year because the people who've done it have been successful," offered Clover Hope of Vibe magazine. "Like 'OMG,' with usher, he didn't have success until he made a dance record. He had 'There Goes My Baby' and these really, like, adult-contemporary records that didn't really catch on. And then once you see that everybody is doing it and that people are liking it, they are like, 'OK, let me just try this out.' It's like Auto-Tune. Like, 'Let me see what I sound like on a record by David Guetta.' They end up liking it and doing more of it."

So does the club-music trend have staying power. According to our tastemakers, not so much.

"I do think it's a blip," Caramanica said. "I don't think that's gonna be something that lasts in America. I think this is gonna be a moment we'll all look back on and go, 'Wasn't that weird when Jason Derülo and Taio Cruz had #1 records?"

"At some point, these R&B artists will get kind of sick of it and be like, 'Let me go back to my soul background,' " Hope said. "When you actually have to say something, dance doesn't really lend itself to substance. And I think that R&B artists, they really want to talk about love and in a deep way, and to do that, you need to do, like, a soul or a traditional R&B record. I want to say that it's kind of a fad."

"I think music is very cyclical," Eng offered. "So I think dance music might be here for a little bit, but I'm sure it will phase out at some point."

Wilson called dance music "the sound of today. I think that people want more aggressive, faster beats, and I think that that probably has legs until at least next summer."

What do you think? Is dance music here to stay? Let us know in the comments!

'They say all rappers want to be basketball players, [and] all basketball players want to be rappers,' says wife of Carmelo Anthony, La La Vazquez.
By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Rahman Dukes

Hip-hop and sports are practically kindred spirits, especially when it comes to basketball. At this year's NBA All-Star Weekend, a number of hoop stars, and the wife of one player in particular, wholeheartedly agreed with this observation.

"They always say all rappers want to be basketball players, [and] all basketball players want to be rappers," La La Vazquez, wife of New York Knick Carmelo Anthony and ex-MTV VJ, told MTV News.

Over the years, a number of NBA players have actually become rappers on the side. Besides four championships — three with the Los Angeles Lakers, one with the Miami Heat — Shaquille O'Neal also managed to release four albums. The first, 1993's Shaq Diesel, went platinum and the third, 1996's You Can't Stop the Reign, featured a pair of verses from the Notorious B.I.G. on its title track. More recently, L.A. Laker Ron Artest has embarked on a rap career, while his teammate Kobe Bryant once kicked rhymes on R&B singer Brian McKnight's "Hold Me."

Not every player necessarily has rap dreams to go along with their hoop dreams, though.

"Every player except me wants to be a rapper," said Dwight Howard of the NBA's Orlando Magic. "I don't want to do the rap thing."

Howard did add though about his fellow NBA stars, "We love music. We love hip-hop and we support it."

LeBron James, who is famously and charitably good friends with Jay-Z, mentioned how basketball players are frequently name-checked in song. For example, on Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind," the MC rhymes, "Jesus paying LeBron, I'm paying Dwyane Wade."

This synergy between players and rappers ultimately boils down to mutual respect.

"We all came from nothing," Boston Celtic Kevin Garnett told us. "The appreciation factor for each other, the fact you gotta grind and work hard to get where you at, it's similar. It's a very similar industry."

Garnett's teammate and fellow All-Star Rajon Rondo added, "We respect those guys the way they respect us. It kind of goes hand in hand. Rappers love to come see us play. We love to see them perform."

What do you think of the ongoing love between hip-hop and hoops? Sound off in the comments!

Boy Troubles For Amy Winehouse

Oh no! Amy Winehouse has been doing SO well lately! This is the last thing she needs. Her current boyfriend, film producer, Reg Traviss, was supposedly spotted getting cuddly with his ex-girlfriend, Raven Isis, at a strip club in London this weekend. At a strip club??? Riiiight. Perfect place for romance, no? Then again Raven is a burlesque dancer, so maybe that's her just her thing.
??The pair walked into the Red Room gentlemen??s club where they spent some time inside. They seemed cosy and comfortable with each other. Raven couldn??t stop smiling. Then they went out to have a cigarette.?
Hopefully this won't send Amy spinning out of control again. With celebrities like Amy and Britney Spears, I feel like the balance is precarious and any little thing could send them over the edge again, don't you?Photos by Wenn.com Continue reading

Tom Cruise Leaves Red Roses For Katie Holmes ?Everywhere She Goes?

Katie Holmes is currently out promoting her upcoming movie "The Romantics", so it's the perfect opportunity to ask her about husband Tom Cruise's romantic side.Katie shared a little private tidbit with Parade:
"My husband has red roses for me everywhere I go."
Doesn't Tom worry that if a delivery is delayed or doesn't show up or something like that - that she'll be thinking something's wrong? ;) That's a lot to live up to - sending them everywhere she goes! It's very sweet! She also chatted about what drew her to this movie:
"I really loved the script when I read it. It felt a lot like The Big Chill and St. Elmo's Fire and also a little bit of a John Hughes feeling, and I always loved those movies growing up.
She shared her respect for the other actors and actresses involved in the film:
"It was great to work with this wonderful cast and director. I was floored by the performances. These guys are such incredible actors. It was really inspiring every single day because you'd watch somebody else do a scene and you'd be like, 'OK, wow. I didn't know that was what it was about.' They brought something so different and wonderful. It was such a great time, I think that's why we all still hang out and we go to dinner often and we're a tight-knit group."
Are you looking forward to this movie? I'm excited about the huge, talented cast: Josh Duhamel, Anna Paquin, Elijah Wood, Malin Akerman, Candice Bergen, and Adam Brody. More importantly - how often does your significant other send you flowers?Photos by INF Continue reading

Ashley Tisdale Shows Off Shorter Hair Cut

Confession time. I've never really cared about Ashley Tisdale. I didn't love her or hate her. She's a lot younger than me and I'm not drawn to her personal life at all. Things changed a few weeks ago when I saw her on 'Extreme Makeovers: Home Edition'. A family in need had a little girl who simply adored the singer and Ashley came on the show, helped build their new house and performed for the town. I thought that was REALLY nice and now I love Ashley.Yes, it's that easy to change my mind like that. Here she is showing off a new shorter do and leaving a Beverly Hills hair salon. Do you prefer Ashley with her longer hair?Photos by FAME Continue reading

Britney Spears' Manager Teases Her Next Single

'It is a monster,' Larry Rudolph tells MTV News about 'Hold It Against Me' follow-up.

With a little more than a month to go before the March 29 release of Britney Spears' Femme Fatale, we spoke to her longtime manager, Larry Rudolph, on the same night her eagerly anticipated "Hold It Against Me" video premiered.

Rudolph revealed to MTV News during our "HIAM" live stream on Thursday night that fans will likely hear another new song before the album — executive-produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke — comes out.

"We have a second song that I think we're gonna end up putting out before the album drops," he teased. "I can't say with 100 percent certainty, but I think we probably will. But we're talking about it now and it is a monster. It really is."

Rudolph has been by Brit's side since the beginning of her career, and he predicted that if fans love "HIAM," then they're in for a real treat with the next song.

"I don't think I've been this excited about releasing a Britney single in many, many years," he added. "It's that good. That's all I'm gonna say about it at the moment. I haven't heard a final mix of it, but I should get it in the next day or two. So far, what I've heard is just extraordinary. It really is amazing. Her fans will be very happy with it. I'm trying hard to get it out before the album comes out."

Spears teased some upcoming promotional plans for the album last week during a Twitter Q&A. "I'm doing a lot of promo," she said. "There will be some major announcements in the next few days." She added, "I'm thinking about the tour right now and I would [love] to visit a lot of places I didn't get to go to on my last tour."

Ashley Tisdale Learned Some Cheerleading Moves From Her Mom!

Ashley Tisdale is starring in my new favourite show, Hellcats but is probably most known by 12 and 13 year olds alike as starring in the High School Musical franchise, as well as various Family channel shows. Her new role has her starring as a college cheerleader in the CW??s new show, Hellcats. She told Seventeen magazine that although she wasn??t a cheerleader, she was able to get some pointers from her mom, Lisa!
??I was never a cheerleader but luckily my mom was, and she gave me some great tips. ??It was hard but I enjoyed it and it's a great way to keep fit."
I`m pretty sure that the moves the cheerleaders are doing these days are a bit different than the ones Ashley`s mom was doing! Cheerleading is crazy now with all the dancing and gymnastics involved! But it`s nice that Ashley was able to use her mom`s experiences to help her out.Are you surprised that Ashley would look to her mother for cheerleading advice? Are you watching Hellcats this season?Photos By WENN Continue reading

Michael Jackson's 'Thriller': Story Behind The 'Glee' Cover

MJ classic is mashed up with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' 'Heads Will Roll' for post-Super Bowl episode.
By Aly Semigran

Madonna, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and now, finally, Michael Jackson. The cast of "Glee" has covered plenty of icons during their first two seasons, but it's taken 33 episodes to get around to the King of Pop.

With a huge catalog of Jackson songs, the singing, dancing students of McKinley High paid homage to the late singer with one of his biggest staples (and, arguably, the greatest music video of all time) with their take on "Thriller."

The groundbreaking single from Jackson's best-selling album of the same name was mashed up with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Heads Will Roll" for the post-Super Bowl episode (titled "The Sue Sylvester Bowl Shuffle"), featuring a zombie-fied "Glee" cast.

Bound to become a smash all over again (though with its nonstop rotation at Halloween parties and wedding receptions until the end of time, it's never truly gone away), here's a brief history of the dance/pop classic.

Released on January 23, 1984, "Thriller" was the seventh, and final, single to be released from Jackson's smash record. According to the RIAA, the album (released by Epic Records) has gone gold 29 times, narrowly edging out the Eagles' Greatest Hits 1971-1975 for the title of best-selling album of all time.

In 2009, MTV News estimated that the Thriller album was poised to go triple diamond, meaning 30 million records sold in the U.S. alone.

After Thriller's other singles (including "Billie Jean," "Beat It" and "Wanna Be Startin' Something") dominated the charts, it was time for the spooky, undeniably original track to take over. The song "Thriller" also appeared on many of Jackson's other albums, including the compilations HIStory and Number Ones.

Clocking in at a little under six minutes (though the radio edit was closer to four-and-a-half), the song features pop-music mainstays like synthesizers but shakes things up with its spooky sound effects, including creaking floors, howling and thunder.

The song was produced by Quincy Jones and written and composed by Rod Tempterton and spent 14 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #4.

But it's the music video for "Thriller" that truly made it the phenomenon it was in the '80s and continues to be today. Less a music video than a mini-motion picture, the video (over 13 minutes long and directed by John Landis) won three MTV Video Music Awards and has been named the best music video of all time by many outlets, including VH1 for the special "VH1: 100 Greatest Videos."

The chiller features Jackson in that iconic red leather jacket on a date with his girlfriend (played by Ola Ray) before things go terribly awry. After all, as Jackson (whose disclaimer at the start of the video reads, "This film in no way endorses a belief in the occult") sings in the opening line, "It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark." Cue werewolves, zombies, Vincent Price's soliloquy and one of the most memorable dance sequences ever.

The video was (no pun intended) a monster hit. As the Los Angeles Times notes, "At the height of the song's popularity, MTV would run the 14-minute 'Thriller' video twice an hour."

Choreographed by Jackson and Michael Peters (who, as the LA Times also reported, appears in the video as one of the zombies) and with makeup by Oscar-winner Rick Baker (also an undead "Thriller" extra) was made with a huge budget of an estimated $500,000.

Still, the efforts paid off. Landis (who told the "Today" show back in 2009 that no one wanted to give them the funds to make the risky vid) made the accompanying 45-minute documentary about the venture, called "The Making of Thriller." Featuring the behind-the-scenes wizardry, as well as the music video in full, it would go on to move more than 10 million copies.

Since then, the signature song and video have seen their share fair of tributes in movies (notably in the 2004 comedy"13 Going on 30") and TV ("South Park," "Family Guy," "30 Rock," among others), not to mention the countless flash mobs that have gone viral. (Remember the prisoners in the Philippines who became overnight phenomenons on YouTube?)

Even with the "Glee" number, this likely won't be the last incarnation of "Thriller." Billboard reported in October that a "Thriller" film is in the works. With a plot allegedly revolving around Price's narration, Kenny Ortega, who directed Jackson's last effort, "This Is It," will reportedly helm the project.

Since Jackson's untimely passing on June 25, 2009, the song and video's legacy continue to live on. In the week following Jackson's death, "Thriller" was the best-selling track in the U.S., with sales of 167,000 copies on the Billboard Hot Digital Singles chart.

Then, in December 2009, "Thriller" was the first music video to ever be inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. It seems "no mere mortal can resist ... the thriller" after all.

What did you think of the "Thriller" mash-up on "Glee"? Let us know in the comments!

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray's Trial To Be Televised

Judge rules that camera will be allowed in the courtroom for manslaughter case.

For what promises to be one of the most bizarre and riveting legal proceedings in years, a Los Angeles judge ruled on Monday that a television camera will be allowed in the courtroom when Michael Jackson's doctor goes on trial for involuntary manslaughter.

Reuters reported that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, approved the presence of a camera in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray as long as it does not interfere with the proceedings in the closely watched case.

The judge asked for the "absolute least-intrusive placement" of a TV camera in the courtroom, but blocked cameras from documenting jury selection.

Pastor also announced that he would bump up the opening date of the trail by four days to March 24, at which point jury selection will begin. Murray, who faces up to four years in prison if convicted, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the trial is expected to last around six weeks.

Cardiologist Murray was hired to be Jackson's personal physician in the run-up to the King of Pop's planned 50-date comeback series of shows at London's O2 arena in the summer of 2009. The doctor told police that he provided Jackson, 50, with sedatives and the surgical anesthetic propofol in order to combat the singer's chronic insomnia. He said he did so on the morning of June 25, 2009, when Jackson died of what a coroner deemed acute propofol poisoning.

TMZ reported on Tuesday (February 8) that Murray's lawyers plan to argue that Jackson was already in weak health before he died and that it's unfair to blame propofol for his passing. Unnamed sources close to the case told the gossip site that at the time of his death, Jackson's body was already failing him in part because concert promoter AEG Live had "driven [him] over the edge" with a rigorous rehearsal schedule for the shows.

Murray's lawyers reportedly plan to call witnesses to say that Jackson was not showing up for rehearsals and when he did he showed "clear signs" of frail health. They also reportedly plan to argue that it was Jackson who administered the final, fatal dose of propofol to himself while Murray was out of the room.

Lady Gaga Brings Monster Ball Home To New York

Madison Square Garden performance recorded for HBO special.

NEW YORKLady Gaga took her Monster Ball home Monday night, hitting the Madison Square Garden stage for not only the second show of this leg of her tour, but also the first of two tapings for her forthcoming HBO special.

Check out photos from Lady Gaga's New York City show.

After a rousing set from the Scissor Sisters, the arena's lights dimmed and the crowd went crazy as the chugging beat of "Dance in the Dark" played, counting down Mother Monster's entrance.

"New York City, did you guys come to party tonight?" she asked as she appeared. "The Monster Ball will set you free."

In a sheer dress and nun's habit, Gaga performed "Love Game."

"My name is Lady Gaga, and I was born and raised in the unbreakable streets of New York City," she proclaimed. "Thank you so much. Tonight, I want you to forget all of your insecurities because I didn't used to be brave but you have made me brave, little monsters."

She then kicked it old school with "Boys Boys Boys."

"Are we gonna get divided now if I put this on?" she asked before pulling on a Yankees cap. After a quick chat with a fan, she went right into "Telephone," without an appearance from Beyoncé, despite fan murmurings that Queen B might make an appearance.

Gaga then sat at her piano and slowed things down with "Speechless."

"I come from a long line of Italian men. Freakin' eye makeup fell off," she interjected, peeling off her false eyelashes. "If you think I'm going to go on HBO without fingernails, you're wrong. The men in my family all really like to drink, so I spent my whole life chasing after men who drink as much as them, so cheers to all of you."

She tailored the lyrics to her hometown and the men she knows with shout-outs to baseball games and her former nail salon on Clinton Street. For a moment, the show became more cabaret then dance hall. "And God bless the New York Fire Department: They told me I couldn't light my piano on fire."

Before hitting the piano again for "You & I," she had a message for the excited, cheering crowd: "This is for you, New York. This is on my new record, Born This Way."

She belted: "There's something about Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island ... you and I."

Later emerging as an angel, Gaga performed "So Happy I Could Die." "Your outfit is amazing," she shouted to her fans.

Before the crowd-pleaser "Monster," she asked the crowd, "Do you think I'm sexy, 'cause I think you're sexy. ... You were born with a little extra strength. ... I'm up here to empower all of you."

In the midst of performing "Teeth," Gaga laid out on the stage floor and began to feel up a male dancer. "Just in case you ever wonder if I ever lip sync, the answer is no. ... Show me your teeth," she said. "It's a really good thing this is for HBO."

A saint statue was rolled out onto the stage for "Alejandro." "Put your hands up for equality," Gaga urged. "Love each other."

Given all the excitement, it was easy to forget the whole show is about Gaga trying to get to the Monster Ball. When she finally arrived at the ball, she played "Paparazzi."

"Thank you so much for being brave," she told her fans as firecrackers exploded from her bra. "And when they ask you 'How was Lady Gaga?' you can tell them we burned the place to the f---ing ground. I don't want to be your queen. You were born this way, baby."

After a short intermission, Mother Monster reappeared for an encore, pleasing the room with "Bad Romance." "You'd better not leave when this song is over 'cause there's just one more surprise," she promised. "You're my heart and soul."

She stood fierce and proud, taking in the crowd. "I might do something a little extra special for you, but only if you scream really slutty for me," she proclaimed before exiting the stage as the band played out "Bad Romance."

To the excitement of her fans, Gaga emerged in her Grammy attire to perform "Born This Way." "Where's all my girls?" she asked. As dancers took the stage beside her, she said, "We just want to remind you all tonight, we want you to remember to never give up on your dreams."

She sang part of the song a cappella, then played it full out, reenacting her memorable Grammy performance. The show ended with her and her dancers in an embrace as the curtain came down over them.
