Kauffman Sponsors 'Express Your Pledge' Challenge to Entrepreneurs For Chance at Ticket to 'Big Omaha'

Competition invites entrepreneurs to express what being a founder means to them

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation is inviting entrepreneurs to read its "Entrepreneur's Pledge," and express what it means to them for a chance to win a ticket to Big Omaha, a sold-out event billed as "the nation's most ambitious conference on innovation and entrepreneurship," to be held May 11-13, 2011 in Omaha, Neb.

The Foundation created the "Pledge" for entrepreneurs to not only publicly express their enthusiasm for being a business owner, but also to show their support for entrepreneurship as a cause.

Big Omaha's "Express Your Pledge" competition asks entrepreneurs to review the Pledge and explain in 300 words or less what it means to them and at least two ways they could do a better job fulfilling it.

"Like the Pledge itself, Big Omaha's competition gives founders a chance to voice what it means to contribute to our communities and the economy every day, and to have an opportunity to win a seat at Big Omaha," said Nick Seguin, manager of entrepreneurship at the Kauffman Foundation.

More than 500 innovators and entrepreneurs are expected to attend Big Omaha, which will feature speakers such as Shervin Pishevar, founder and CEO of Social Gaming Network, and Sarah Lacy, senior editor at TechCrunch.

Competition entrants each must complete an online application . Entries are due by April 29, 2011, and the winner will be announced the week of May 2. The winning entrant will be responsible for all travel expenses.

The Entrepreneur's Pledge:

I aman Entrepreneur.

I amfollowing a dream, pursuing an opportunity, taking charge of my own destiny.

I ambringing something of value to society, making a job for myself and for others, and creating wealth that benefits my family, my community, my country, my world.

I amone of a movement of millions of entrepreneurs and innovators who made America great, and who will continue to keep our economy going...and growing.

I amwhat I am because many people have helped me along on this journey.

Therefore:

I willtell my story, sharing my successes and failures, so that others taking the entrepreneurial path can learn.

I willstrive to mentor an aspiring entrepreneur.

I willmake my voice heard by those who make policy decisions that affect me and my business.

I willappreciate and celebrate my accomplishments, and the accomplishments of all my fellow entrepreneurs.

I willgive back to the society that helped me to be successful.

I willBuild a Stronger America.

BOOK

Tales of the guitar icons

Before Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, et al., came to be considered guitar gods, they were young guns turning music on its ear. Guitar Player Presents: Guitar Heroes of the '70s (Backbeat Books, $15) takes you back to when they were still ascending to the rock pantheon. The 250-page book, edited by Guitar Player editor in chief Michael Molenda, republishes 40 interviews the magazine did in the 1970s in which Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townshend, Jerry Garcia and dozens of others talked about their instruments and how they squeezed those sounds out of them. Each interview is presented with black-and-white photos, the magazine cover in which it appeared and recommended discs. ? Steve Jones

CONCERT

In tune with Maroon 5, Train

Fans of tightly crafted, highly polished pop-rock get a two-for-one deal this summer. Once Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine wraps work on NBC's The Voice, his band and Train will combine for a co-headlining tour kicking off July 22 in Chula Vista, Calif. The value gets even better with the opening act: Gavin DeGraw opens the tour's first leg, and Matt Nathanson replaces him starting Aug. 28. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday morning. ? David Beckham Narrowly Avoids Royal Wedding Faux Pas

The always fashionable David Beckham nearly suffered an embarrassing royal faux pas during William and Kate's wedding yesterday.

Take a look at the the before and after. Any clue as to what his slip-up could have been?

When Becks arrived at Westminster Abbey Friday morning, he was proudly displaying his Order of the British Empire medal, which he received for his services to British football back in 2003.

Unfortunately, while his intentions were good, his etiquette was a bit rusty.

You see, David was wearing his medal on his right lapel, when in fact, he should have affixed the honor to his left in keeping with proper procedure.

In any event, someone managed to alert him to the error and Becks quickly made the adjustment. Perhaps another OBE member was kind enough to pull David aside and discretely point out the minor oversight. After all, at a royal wedding, chances are there were a few other honorees in the crowd. And on a day like that, no detail, no matter how small goes unnoticed.

We're sure the whole moment was met with a spot of that famously dry British wit.

Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon Welcome Twins

Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon Welcome Twins

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon

Marion Curtis/Startraks

April 30 is double the pleasure for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Not only did they welcome twins, but the couple celebrated their third wedding anniversary, too!

Carey, 42, delivered the babies Saturday at 12:07 p.m. EST at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles. Carey's representative, Cindi Berger, confirmed the births to The Associated Press, saying the baby girl was born first, weighing 5 lbs., 3 oz., and was 18 inches long; her brother was next, at 5 lbs. 6 oz., and was 19 inches.

And it was just as Cannon, 30, predicted. "I'm not trying to be a psychic, but we renew our vows every year so ... It's probably going to be in the hospital this year. I can feel it," Cannon said Thursday when he guest-hosted The Talk. "We got the minister coming in, so this gown will not be a wedding gown, but a hospital gown."

Berger tells PEOPLE "she's doing great" and they were listening to Carey's "We Belong Together" after the children were born. "I spoke to both of them and they are both completely overjoyed."

Asked if the birth was planned to coincide with her anniversary, she said: "No, not even Mariah could plan that."

"Nick was very nervous and Mariah was completely calm. Mariah thought it was another soft labor and Nick was driving her to the hospital and she very calm and the music was blasting," she added. "When they walked into the hospital, [Nick] was going the wrong way and they nurse redirected them to go the maternity ward, and I said to her, 'that's right out of I Love Lucy,' and she laughed."

Long before the births, the couple made no secret of their desire to have children. Last October when they first made Carey's pregnancy public, Cannon said that "the greatest gift on earth is a child."

Throughout Carey's pregnancy, the parents-to-be were cautious about revealing too many personal details since the couple had a "long journey" to parenthood, Cannon said in December.

That the singer was expecting twins was chattered about for months before Cannon finally confirmed it in December.

As for the origin of their babies' names, Cannon told PEOPLE in January that the couple had aimed for unique but not wacky. "They won't be crazy names like Carburetor or something," he promised. "But they're definitely unique."

While the royal wedding was a hot ticket, the Queen's reception was an even more exclusive affair.

Roughly 650 guests gathered at Buckingham Place to celebrate Prince William and Catherine Middleton after the couple exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey on Friday.

"It was very cozy," says Alex van Straubenzee, father of the late Henry van Straubenzee, a close friend of William's. "There was a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. There were lots of people there ? even in a place as big as Buckingham Palace. I won't say it was informal, but everyone was having a wonderful time."

After guests mingled with the royals, both Prince Charles and Prince William gave touching speeches.

"It was a very happy scene," a male guest told PEOPLE. "We cut the cake, and then Charles gave a lovely speech about his son and spoke about him in a very lovely way."

While guests nibbled on canaps, such as Cornish crab salad and quail eggs, the newlyweds were toasted with Pol Roger NV Brut Reserve champagne. For dessert, partygoers had their choice of two wedding cakes ? a traditional fruit cake, as well as a chocolate biscuit cake requested by Prince William.

"What I found amazing was the ability for the royal family to wander into a room with 600 people and just say thank you [to so many of them]," David Livingstone, Head of St. Andrew's School told PEOPLE. "To be able to just go in, talk very freely and move on."

Wedding Was a Dream

As for the ceremony itself, guests couldn't say enough good things about the momentous event. From the beautiful setting and music to the crowd reaction and the poised bride and groom, many in attendance were moved by the experience.

"It was a bit of a dream; what an amazing thing to be a part of," Garth Thomas, a rugby player and friend of the groom, told ITV. "[The bride] was stunning, absolutely beautiful. Actually, it was almost a fairy-tale ? but it was real."

The fairy-tale continued as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge drove away from the palace in an Aston Martin convertible.

But the celebration doesn't stop there. Prince Charles is throwing the newlyweds a dinner dance at the palace this evening.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge is now starting a new life

Kate Middleton, or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge as we are now to address her, was simply stunning as she married Prince William.

Her 'vintage' lace and silk dress was designed by Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton and Kate teamed it with elegant handmade Robinson Pelham diamond earrings.

They were designed especially for her big day and commissioned by her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, as a wedding present.

Inspiration for the earrings came from the Middleton family's coat of arms which includes acorns and oak leaves.

The London jewellers also made Kate's sister Pippa's diamond earrings and their mother Carole's diamond pendant.

Father Michael and brother James both sported 2 gold stickpins - one with a single acorn at the head and the other with an oak leaf.

Kate's earrings complemented her Cartier tiara, loaned to her by the Queen, perfectly.

Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton ? the next royal romance?

Chelsy Davy was watching from the pews as boyfriend Prince Harry followed just-married Prince William and Kate Middleton down the aisle at Westminster Abbey today.

And she might have been better to have looked away.

The cheeky Prince, who was Best Man to brother Wills at today's Royal Wedding, laughed and joked with Maid Of Honour Pippa Middleton, 27, as they walked arm-in-arm at the end of the ceremony.

The pair whispered to each other and couldn't stop grinning - perhaps in anticipation of tonight's reception at Buckingham Palace, where Harry's sure to embarrass Will with his speech.

Zimbabwe-born Chelsy, 25 - who has been dating Harry, 26, on and off for a number of years - chose a turquoise Alberta Ferretti mini-skirt and off-the-shoulder top for the event.

But it seemed Harry's eyes were all on Pippa, who wore a classy ivory full-length silk gown to perfectly complement her sister's lace retro-style Sarah Burton wedding dress.

The District 5 Tributes Have Been Cast In ?The Hunger Games?

The District 5 Tributes Have Been Cast In ?The Hunger Games?

Ladies & Gentlemen, We Have a Foxface

Earlier today we read that Woody Harrelson has reportedly been offered the role of Head Gamemaster Seneca Crane in the big screen adaptation of The Hunger Games and that Stanley Tucci and Lenny Kravitz have also been offered unknown roles. Right now, tho, we learn for certain that the boy and girl tributes from District 5 have been cast for the film. Newcomers Chris Mark and Jackie Emerson have won the roles ? both characters are nameless but the girl tribute from District 5 is referred to as Foxface.

Via the official The Hunger Games Facebook page, Lionsgate has announced the casting of Chris Mark and Jackie Emerson as the boy and girl (Foxface) tributes for District 5 in The Hunger Games Movie. Foxface never says a word throughout the novel, but Katniss hears her laugh when the Careers? food is destroyed. She is quick and clever, and dashes in and out of traps to collect what she needs without bloodshed or contact with anyone.

More unknown casting, which is good, but at this point ? the rest of the tributes will likely be played by other actors we?ve never heard of before. Still, I?m very glad they are casting unknown actors in the roles and I?m happy they will continue to do so. I am VERY anxious to hear which known actors will get the plumb roles so any and all casting news from The Hunger Games is welcome by me. Next up, the tributes from District 6?

Will Durst: Birther Bozos Need a New Nose

Goaded into action by a nattering of numbskulls, Barack Obama finally released the long form of his Certificate of Live Birth from the state of Hawaii, and hopefully threw the last shovel of dirt onto this inception nonsense. But the suspicion is, no, this probably won't put an end to it. As we speak, vanquished Birther Bozos are crawling out of the crypt searching for a new nose to wear. First the short form, now the long form, soon they'll want to see the director's cut. Then, on a television near you, the mini-series.

Anything to reinforce the strangeness of the first African American president. "Different than you and me." "Not a real American." Explains those silly cries of "We're taking our country back." Yeah. From the black guy. What they really want is the 1950s and the front of their buses back.

Don't think this is over. This is not over. Not by a long shot. People believe what they want to believe. Facts be damned. 30% of the GOP still believes Saddam Hussein was responsible for 911 and weapons of mass destruction are currently cruising the streets of Fallujah disguised as ice cream trucks. Driven by men wearing tinfoil hats.

Obama's actions spurred some on the Right to charge him with orchestrating this whole distraction to keep the country from the real issues. Wow. The perfect somersault of blaming the hit and run victim for walking alone on a sidewalk late at night. "He attacked my bumper with his chest."

Others, like Newt Gingrich, refuse to be convinced. "There are still questions." Yeah, and besides, Obama's citizenship is due to a technicality, because on August 4th, 1961, Hawaii had been a state for less than two years. Maybe the flippo-units will switch tactics and demand proof he's not a Muslim. And won't be satisfied until they see a signed and dated parchment from Allah.

The disgrace is, the president was forced to hold a press conference, not to address the reshuffling of his national security team: but rather... where he was born. His exact quote was: "not going to be able to do our jobs if we get distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers." In response, the main carnival barker, Donald Trump, claimed to be honored for making the president jump through hoops like a trained Pomeranian. Who also would not be eligible to be president.

The Donald is that kid in high school oblivious to the whole class making fun of him, including the teacher. Faced with the very concrete evidence he insisted on viewing, you'd think he'd find a way to graciously back off, but you'd be as wrong as blaze orange camo. Buffalo chip cookies. Cheesecloth mittens.

The Aerodynamic Coif instead upped the ante to question how a guy named Barack Hussein Obama got into Harvard Law and wants to see his college transcripts, which is a really, really sly way of throwing out the "n" word. Surprised he didn't use "shiftless."

We need Trump to provide samples of his DNA to prove he's actually a carbon-based life form. Show us your hairline Captain Carnival Barker. What's next: a mole count? Will a committee be empanelled to investigate the number of moles on the president's body? "Where are they and why is he hiding them? And exactly how many of them are shaped like his socialist supervisor, Cuba?"

The New York Times says Emmy-nominated comedian and writer Will Durst "is quite possibly the best political satirist working in the country today." Check out Redroom.com to find out about upcoming stand- up performances or to buy his book, "The All- American Sport of Bipartisan Bashing."

Locals fuss over royal wedding at Woodland Hills pub

Bleary-eyed and teary-eyed, San Fernando Valley residents joined with an estimated 2 billion royal watchers around the world in celebrating Friday's nuptials of Prince William and his longtime girlfriend, Kate Middleton.

At the White Harte Pub in Woodland Hills, dozens of guests ate tea sandwiches, sipped champagne and feasted on strawberry shortcake decorated with William and Kate's initials.

Donning a hat she wore in 2005 when she met Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, Audrey Rose took in every detail - the dress, the carriages, the hats - on a big-screen TV.

"It's just a beautiful end to Princess Diana's life," said Rose, 62, referring to Prince William's mother who died in a car accident in 1997. "I just wish a lot of happiness for her children.

"This is the start of it," she said as she teared up.

Sporting a black fascinator headpiece crafted by her mother and a new dress, Anita Hupalo looked like she could have been one of the 1,900 wedding guests at Westminster Abbey.

"I feel a little royal, absolutely," Anita Hupalo said with a smile.

Her mother, Gail, reached into the closet for a black hat that didn't disappoint.

"It has been to a couple of functions," said Gail Hupalo, 71. "I dusted it off."

Although Anita, 39, took Friday off from her job as a music industry executive, Gail wasn't as lucky. Her shift started at 1 p.m. today in the floral department at Gelson's in Northridge.

But, she wasn't worried about catching up on sleep when she left the White Harte Pub around 5 a.m.

"I want to go somewhere for breakfast," she said.

Patrons at the White Harte were clearly in the wedding party mood, although the guy in the Beefeater costume wasn't particularly chatty.

Party-goers smiled when Prince Harry sneaked a peek at his future sister-in-law as she walked down the aisle, then muttered a comment to his older brother.

A group of young ladies from Great Britain stood up and sang "God Save the Queen" with gusto, and guests applauded when William put the ring on his bride's finger.

Aleksandra Kosmala, a waitress at the White Harte, enjoyed the wedding with her coworkers at the bar, even though she was off-duty.

She wasn't born when Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer on July 29, 1981, so she wanted to make sure to see this royal wedding.

"I do feel like they are really in love," said Kosmala, 26. "It's a happy moment."

Kosmala sported a feathered turquoise hat she bought six years ago at Urban Outfitters, but had never worn. Now, it's the William and Katherine hat.

"I wanted to wear it on Halloween, but it wasn't right," said Kosmala, of Encino. "This is perfect."

Even visitors from Great Britain felt right at home at the Ventura Boulevard pub.

"We didn't get our invites to the real thing in time," joked Ellie Worthington, 31, in ministry school in Redding. "This is the next-best thing."

They took photographs of each other standing next to a big-screen TV while it was beaming images of the wedding, marveled at the large crowds in London and extolled the loveliness of their future queen.

During the last two weeks, the mix of childhood and university friends traveled from San Francisco to Los Angeles, sightseeing along the way.

On Thursday, Helen McKeever, 30, of Belfast, Northern Ireland, searched online for local venues to watch the royal wedding, and found the party at the White Harte.

"I think we probably had a better experience over here," said Kerry Mills, 31, of London.

They left before the couple`s kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace so they could get some sleep and do some sight-seeing before their flight back to London tonight.

Sarah Gonzalez said her mother told her stories about watching Princess Diana`s wedding so she wanted to see this one.

"Everything`s better when it is live," the 21-year-old said. "Nothing is scripted. You get to see everything as it comes - genuinely."

She and her friend, Yvette Gonzalez, stayed to watch William and Kate's first public kiss as husband and wife.

"It looks like the kiss cam at Dodger Stadium," Yvette Gonzalez said.

As she walked out the pub's front gate just before 6 a.m., Yvette Gonzalez summed up the moment perfectly.

"It was a fairy-tale wedding," she said. "She was a natural princess."

Prince William and his brother Prince Harry have arrived at Westminster Abbey for his wedding to Kate Middleton.

Prince William has arrived at Westminster Abbey.

The groom - wearing the red military uniform and blue sash of the Irish Guards - was accompanied by his brother Prince Harry, who is serving as best man for today's (29.04.11) nuptials with Kate Middleton.

The groom made his way to the Abbey from Buckingham Palace after many guests had already taken to their seats, but before foreign royals and members of his own and Kate's families.

Among those already at the Abbey are David and Victoria Beckham, with the pregnant star teaming a flowing navy dress of her own creation with a Philip Treacy hat and Christian Louboutin shoes, which had been customised by the designer himself.

Prince Harry's on/off girlfriend Chelsy Davy was one of the first to arrive, along with socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and singer Joss Stone.

Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish appeared in good spirits as they walked towards Westminster Abbey alongside BANG Showbiz royal correspondent Colette Fahy.

Kate's brother James and mother Carole Middleton - wearing a sky blue wool crepe coat dress with satin piping and Jane Corbett hat - are expected to be next to arrive, with some members of William's family also on their way.

The pair are due to marry at 11am.

Just call her Mellow Yellow.

Queen Elizabeth, who simply could not stop smiling as she watched her grandson, the Duke of Cambridge, marry Catherine Middleton (now Duchess of Cambridge), looked prim, proper and bright in her pale yellow ensemble at Friday's Royal Wedding.

The queen, who turned 85 earlier this month, wore a single-crepe wool primrose dress with hand-sewn beading at the neck, emulating sunrays, a perfect complement to her sunny outlook.

Over her dress, she sported a matching double-crepe wool tailored primrose coat. The look was designed by Angela Kelly, the Queen's personal assistant and senior dresser.

Kelly also designed the Queen's hat, a crepe topper accented with handmade silk roses and matching apricot-colored leaves.

Kelly, who has been one of the Queen's right-hand women for quite some time, spoke to U.K.'s Telegraph in 2007 about her role. "She is not 'my' Queen, she is everyone's and so I have to share her," Kelly said. "Once she has chosen something to wear, I just want her to look good in it."

The Queen, who lent bride Kate a glimmering tiara for her big day, also wore some sparkling gems of her own, including Queen Mary's "True Lovers Knot" brooch.
