FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - President Barack Obama is at Fort Campbell in Kentucky to privately thank participants in the daring military operation that ended with the death of terror mastermind Osama bin Laden.
He also planned a public "thank you" for soldiers who have recently returned home from Afghanistan.
Fort Campbell is home to the 101st Airborne Division and many of its combat teams have recently completed tours of duty in Afghanistan. U.S. troops have spent nearly a decade in Afghanistan trying to dismantle bin Laden's al-Qaida terrorist network. The fort is also home to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. The highly specialized Army unit ferried a team of Navy SEALs to bin Laden's Pakistani hideout.
Bin Laden was killed during a raid last Sunday and buried at sea.
