China's Ministry of Culture gave Bob Dylan permission to perform his first concert in China, in Beijing. There may be an additional gig in Shanghai.
Perhaps the 2011 Grammys served as a soundcheck for the legendary folk singer Bob Dylan, 69, who has been given the green light for his first-ever performance in Beijing between March 30 and April 12, China's Ministry of Culture announced.
Clearance for a Shanghai date for the gravelly-voiced star is also in the works, the ministry said.
Dylan had reportedly planned to play shows in Beijing and Shanghai last year, but those dates were cancelled as a result of complications with the Ministry and a money dispute with a Taiwanese promoter.
There are concerns that songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin," recorded during the American civil rights and anti-Vietnam War movements, might not exactly fly with the Chinese government.
Chinese officials will be vetting Dylan?s setlist before the show in Beijing, Rolling Stone reported.
The Chinese dates are part of a larger tour that kicks off in Taiwan's capital, Taipei, on April 3 and includes stops in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
