3 women reportedly bound with duct tape, robbed at their Van Nuys home

VAN NUYS - Three men armed with handguns broke into a Van Nuys home today, tied up the three women inside and ransacked the home, stealing about $10,000 in cash and jewelry.

Police were called to the home in the 13900 block of Archwood Street at about 3:40 a.m. Three women inside the house were tied up -- reportedly with duct tape -- while the suspects searched the home, police said.

One of the victims managed to escape and call police from a neighbor's home, according to Los Angeles police Lt. Andy Neiman.

The suspects, who were 25 to 30 years old and wore black masks and black clothing and carried handguns, had fled the home by the time officers arrived, Neiman said. He added that the women in the house spoke Russian, making it difficult initially for police to get information on what had happened.

"There was a little trouble with a language barrier," Neiman said. "We had to get someone there to translate."

Neiman said the suspects made off with about $10,000 worth of cash and jewelry.

One of the women was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Neiman said some type of fluid may have been spilled on her.
